The question I get asked most often is "how did my business get
started" and the answer is simple, it was a hobby that turned into a
business! In 1966 a very good friend asked if I would do her wedding
cake. At that time I had never decorated a cake in my life, I was very
young (and so of course had no fear), I was not married, but I did have
a very talented family! And when I told them they assured me I could do
it and so I began to PRACTICE!!! And 6 months later I did my very first
wedding cake. It was not an award winning cake, but it looked pretty
good, and people just kept asking me to decorate cakes for them. I
loved what I did, and my family kept encouraging me (and pointing out
all corrections that should be made). I married Rod in 1967 and could not have chosen a better mate. He is the best helper in the world! He does none of the decorating, but helps me deliver and set up every wedding cake that I do, and never complains! And since he is a truck driver, he can find anyplace that we have to go. We were blessed with 2 children, a son and daughter that grew up thinking every mom decorated cakes! And they thought eating dinner on the living room floor was normal, since there were cakes on the kitchen table! They are both married now, and we have 2 wonderful "in-laws". They all help at bridal fairs, and with ideas and suggestions for my business and always give me the confidence I need. But the "frosting on the cake" has been our 4 beautiful granddaughters they have given us! I cannot explain the joy they have added to our lives and you will notice how proud we are, if you visit us and see the pictures of them covering my fridge! I still LOVE decorating cakes, and being asked to do a wedding cake is still an honor to me. I take my job very seriously and always want to do the very best I can to help make your wedding day perfect. |
